Cranbourne win FRCC Knockout Cup
Cranbourne are celebrating their win in the Farnham Royal Cricket Club Knockout Cup 2002 by beating Slough 3rd Team in the final by 14 runs.
The winning team were; Club Chairman, Mike Cullen, Sam Gunbie, Club Captain (and overall hero!!) Rob Jones, Barbara & Club President, Mike Elton, Bernie Barfield, Alan Davies, Dave Crick, Terry Thorpe, Imran Raeez & James Twitchen, Alistair James, Matt Robinson, Stacey Warley, Ian Whiteford, Greg DuPreez, Scott Monroe and Jim Ball.
Being put into bat Cranbourne started of slowly only making 16 runs off the first 3 overs, for the loss of 2 wickets. The run rate inproved slightly over the rest of the opening bowlers overs, but with the middle order all getting out fairly cheaply!
With the calming influence of Ex-Uxbridge man Jim Ball, Matt Robinson then finally hit his stride, savaging the first change bowler for 27 runs off his 1st over, and continuing to a match best of 55.
A useful little partnership of 13 between Captain Rob Jones & Dave Crick allowed Cranbourne to set a competitive 144 target for Slough.
A rapid start by Slough had 30 runs on the board after 3 overs for no wickets, then Matt hit his mark again, this time with the ball, with 3 wickets falling in his next over. Not to be outdone, Imran Raeez then sent two more back to the pavillion in his next over.
Some excellent fielding kept Slough looking for a difficult 12 runs an over for the next few overs, until Cricky got the crucial middle order breakthrough. From then on Slough had an uphill struggle, but were never really out of it until, the final over needing 24 to win. Cricky bowled a first class last over to limit them to only 8 runs.
Matt Robinson was named man of the match for his efforts with both bat and ball and Stacey secured his place as a regular wicket keeper with a fine performance behind the stumps!
The 1st round match was against North Maidenhead where Cranbourne won by 24 runs, and in the semi-final, Ickenham were beaten by 30 runs.
